CIJ Fluid-Level Alarms: Sensor, Cable or Supply Problem?

Published by UPLIMARK

A CIJ fluid-level alarm does not, by itself, prove that the level sensor needs replacing. First identify which reservoir or fluid circuit the warning refers to, record when it occurs, and check the permitted operator observations in the machine manual. A parts decision should distinguish the actual fluid condition from the sensor, its cable and the associated control input.

This is general diagnostic and sourcing guidance for continuous inkjet (CIJ) equipment. Alarm definitions, sensor designs and service procedures vary. It is not a model-specific repair procedure or a claim that a particular component will resolve an alarm.

Identify the alarm before choosing a part

Record the exact alarm text and code, printer model, serial number and relevant configuration or revision. An ink-cartridge warning, a makeup-fluid warning and a reservoir-level warning should not automatically lead to the same replacement order. Use the applicable manual to identify what the printer is monitoring.

Also note the sequence: did the warning appear during startup, while running, after a fluid change or after maintenance? Save a photograph of the display before clearing the history. If several alarms are present, preserve their order rather than selecting only the one that mentions a level.

Collect observations without creating another fault

Limit operator checks to those allowed by the manual. Follow the required shutdown and isolation procedure before service access, and consult the relevant fluid safety data sheet. Do not open a reservoir merely to compare it with a display reading, bypass a sensor, bridge terminals or repeatedly add fluid to suppress an alarm.

  • Fluid supply: record the installed fluid reference and the machine's permitted indication of supply status. Note recent cartridge or container changes.
  • Timing: record whether the warning is persistent or intermittent and whether it coincides with a documented operating event.
  • Recent work: note which assemblies, cables or connectors were disturbed during the last maintenance task.
  • Visible condition: photograph accessible external damage or leakage without moving live wiring or opening pressurized fluid connections.

These observations direct the service investigation. They do not identify a failed component on their own.

Separate three questions in the service request

Is the reported fluid condition real?

Ask the service technician to compare the warning with the machine's approved level-checking method and documented fluid-supply sequence. If the actual condition is outside the permitted range, replacing a sensor alone may leave the underlying supply problem unresolved.

Is the correct signal reaching the control system?

The sensor and cable should be treated as separate items unless the parts documentation identifies them as one assembly. A technician may need to check the connection and control input using the manufacturer's procedure. This article does not provide a universal pinout, test voltage or pass/fail electrical value.

What evidence supports replacement?

Request the relevant inspection or test result, the complete installed part reference and the proposed replacement scope. A photograph of a connector is useful, but its shape alone cannot confirm the sensor function, electrical requirements or fluid compatibility.

Build a precise sensor or cable request

Supply the printer model, alarm record, installed reference, label photographs, mounting details and connector views. State whether the request is for a sensor assembly, a separate cable, a seal or a complete tank-related assembly. Include quantity and delivery country so the quotation can address the actual requirement.

For catalog examples, compare the scope of the ULX-FA13422-01 level sensor assembly and the SEN1687 liquid-level sensor cable. These are separate listings for different equipment applications, not interchangeable alternatives or recommended fixes for an unspecified alarm. Confirm the application shown on each product page.

Questions buyers often ask

The container was just replaced. Does that rule out a supply issue?

No. Record the replacement event and fluid reference, then follow the machine's specified checks. The event is useful evidence, not proof that every part of the supply sequence is correct.

Can I order the sensor using the printer brand alone?

No. Match the complete part reference, printer configuration, sensing function and connections. Use our compatibility and ordering guide to organize the evidence.

What should accompany a parts inquiry?

Send the exact alarm, model, current reference, clear photographs and any documented service findings. Read the receiving inspection checklist before approving an incoming replacement.

Request a part match

Contact UPLIMARK for a sensor or cable match, or email support@uplimark.com. Include the information above. Compatibility, supply scope, availability and delivery must be confirmed for the specific quotation.
